Our community garden project is really taking foot. Tomorrow, our school will serve our first lettuce harvest on the school salad bar! How is everyone else doing?

There isn't a way to post pictures on the dicussion board. However, you can email them as attachments to LTS@ffa.org or share them on the Living 2 Serve Facebook group site. We look forward to seeing pictures!

Ponchatoula has had an amazing growing season and also some weird challenges due to the unseasonably warm weather! Adventures in agriculture...gotta love it!

We will serve a meal tonight to families who are currently in a Family Shelter. Each week a different church acts as sponsors, allowing families to stay together in times of hardship. This week three families are sleeping in the church who provided the area for our garden. There are 5 adults and 4 children who, without us, would not have supper together tonight.

Sargent FFA's container gardening is going well. We sent 24 containers with one month old plants home with eight needy families. Our members are working on learning how to container garden this summer, also!

Our project that has our FFA members helping our Young Farmers complete their Manure Management Plans is under way and we have our workshop sessions ready to start next week. We have seen a great deal of interest and we did a presentation to a state-wide DEP/NRCS conference. They are supportive and envision this becoming a "model" for other FFA's in PA to help local farm operators. This project seems to be getting more attention and interest from many groups and agencies.
